Some of the conditions causing teen hair loss are tinea capitis, alopecia areta, trichotillomania, telogen effluvium and traction alopecia.

Tinea capitis may be a cause of sudden hair loss in child. It is basically a fungal infection in the scalp, eyelashes and eyebrows. It also attacks hair follicles and hair shafts. The fungus weakens the hair root and causes the hair to fall. The fungal infections occur in the child due to sharing of combs, brushes, pillow and towels. Children of age 5 to 10 are likely to develop fungal infection in their scalp.

Alopecia areta is also very common among children. It is visible with sudden appearance of bald area among children. It happens without any inflammation and is also not life threatening. It may occur to an infant also.

Most of the children suffering from this type of hair loss regain hair within 12 months. No specific causes of alopecia areta are known so far. Traction alopecia is a kind of physical damage to the hair among children. Sometimes hair loss in a child also occurs due to application of some sort of chemicals.

A child's hair is very soft and so it can not sustain any kind of "assault". Assaults mentioned here include fluffing, teasing, hot combing and blow drying and bleaching. All these beauty tips cause damage to the hair and results in hair loss in the frontal region. Hair styles like pony tail, hair weaving and braiding can also damage a child's hair. But it does not affect all alike.

Irregular patches on the scalp of a child are known as trichotillomania. It may also affect eyebrows and eyelashes. The main cause of this hair anomaly is child hair pulling. Children may have the habit of pulling hair out before sleeping. But this problem does not persist for long.

An emotional and psychological treatment helps stop the hair loss due to trichotillomania. Tilogen effluvium, a cause of hair loss among children occurs due to flu, high fever or any other emotional stress. Child hair loss treatment requires both parenting tips and application of antifungal lotions.

First of all parents should take notice of hair loss in their child. Negligence on their part may complicate the problem. Love and affection shown to the child also works wonders if the reason of hair loss is emotional. Some oral anti fungal is also prescribed for children. But the best remedy for children with hair loss is regular oil massage and healthy nutrition.
